🚜 Heavy Equipment Shipping – How It Works
Step 1: Initial Consultation & Quote Request
Shipping heavy machinery requires knowledge of both logistics and law. To get started, we collect:
- Equipment Info: Type (e.g. dozer, excavator, forklift), model, dimensions, weight, and whether it’s operational
- Pickup & Delivery Addresses: Job site, warehouse, port, or facility
- Transport Needs: Any special loading/unloading gear required (ramps, cranes, etc.)
- Availability of loading/unloading equipment
We assess if your load requires permits, escorts, or special routing, then provide a full quote including insurance, permits, and escort services if applicable.
Step 2: Contract & Booking
Once you approve your quote, we finalize:
- Equipment type, size, and proper trailer match
- Estimated pickup/delivery dates
- DOT-compliant plan for over-dimensional loads
As a brokerage, we link you with expert heavy-haul carriers using specialized trailers (RGNs, lowboys, flatbeds, etc).
Step 3: Carrier Assignment
We match your job to a carrier equipped with:
- The right trailer type (e.g. step deck for tall units, RGN for heavy or self-driven machines)
- Permitting authority in your state(s)
- Knowledge of route restrictions (bridges, tunnels, weigh stations)
Once assigned, you’ll receive carrier details and updates directly from our dispatch team.
Step 4: Equipment Pickup
On pickup day:
- Condition Report: The carrier inspects the machine and completes a BOL with you
- Loading Process: Self-driven equipment is loaded via ramps or dock. Non-running units may require winching or cranes.
- Securing: Chains, binders, and blocking per DOT standards are used to ensure safety
Once loaded, the equipment begins its journey.
Step 5: In-Transit Monitoring
We monitor the shipment for:
- Road closures and traffic
- Weather and route updates
- Permitting/escort coordination (if applicable)
You’re kept informed of progress and any delays.
Step 6: Equipment Delivery
At the destination:
- The carrier unloads your equipment safely
- Final condition is verified and noted on the BOL
- You or your site supervisor signs for delivery
Need delivery to a job site with limited access? We can coordinate staging at a nearby lot.
